UMNO = JAMES BOND???!!!???
Kelab UMNO luar negara.
Its sheer existance and purpose utterly baffles me.
Now even more so when there is a particular UMNO Club (we'll call it umno club X) set to host a JAMES BOND-ish cruise party. Complete with prizes for best Bond-guy and Bond-girl. Owh, there's one for best villain too. What's more, guests are encouraged to wear their glamarous evening gowns n suites, gurls are expected to adorn themselves with jewellery. Basically the kind of attires that match the ones you see Pierce Brosnan, Dennis Richards, Eva Green, or Helle Berry wear in the movies. Wow, that'd be fun wouldnt it? Imagine how glamorous everyone will look, the amazing time they'll have on the cruise having exquisite dinner. Thanks to none other than UNMO Club X. Heck, UNMO Club X will be the talk of town for hosting such a memorable and glamorous affair! It's gonna be MAJOR (bak kate Posh Beckham)!
Now can somebody (preferably someone within the UMNO (any club) community) PLEASE explain to me, again, the purpose of UMNO Club Luar Negara. Seriously. Seriously.
UMNO Club Luar Negara is an extension of UMNO Malaysia. A political party whose objectives are to better, protect, support, educate, unite and strengthen the Malays. Bangsa Melayu. Yang bermaruah. Malah sangat bangga dengan identiti and maruah mereka (sepatutnya lah). Itulah misi UMNO Malaysia.
But how can that be when ure having a Bond-ish club on a cruise? In the name of "getting to know ur frens and having a jolly good time"?
It's frustrating when ppl see UMNO as another social club, and it's even more heartbreaking when the committee itself drives the club as such. I may not be a committee, heck im not even a member. But i AM a Malay, and regardless of how pointless i think Oversea UMNO CLubs are, i still think they're more than just 'another have-fun club'. UMNO masih Kelab Melayu. Dan apakah definisi kelab pelajar melayu yg bertujuan utk melahirkan individu melayu contoh jika ahli2 kelab diajak bersuka-ria di atas kapal berpakaian seperti hero mat salleh. To make matters worse, james bond is just a ficitonal character! And i think, somewhere in Malaysia, DR Mahathir is still alive and breathing... Hurm...
Call me narrow-minded, but i really do think umno club serves more, beneficial purpose than this and therefore should hold more appropiate activities. Im not having problem wif the idea of dressing up as bond girl and the shizz, in fact i think it is a brilliant idea. I do think everyone'll hv fun. But what bothers me is the fact that UMNO is hosting it. Having said that, Im not suggesting that UMNO club should have kursus kepimpinan, or pertandingan debat etc either. I am not THAT boring a person...COME ON! And dont get even get me started wif the financial support part...................
What I am suggesting here is that the committee members themselves, should view the club differently. They should be aware that it aint no other social club. If it is, then why is UMNO club getting a generous amount of "support" from UMNO Malaysia including the politicians? Why are the overseas UMNO club presidents be invited to the annual UMNO gathering if UMNO clubs are merely a social thing? Why, u think?
Because it's not just another ordinary club (at least, that's what Id like to think). The members potray the club. So do the activities. U dont see Islamic associations having grand balls, do you? What are we saying to people, that Malays admire James Bond soo much that it's become a part of our culture? Are we implying that Malays are soo modern nowadays that we can play dress ups too? And that it's okay for Malay gurls to wear high-slit skirts and bareback dresses? Neng, can you live and let loose...Kalau tak bwt aktiviti mcm ni, kang tak bess ar...I heard a voice say. Fun can be instilled in just about anything! Fun does not require you to be BOND and pretend that u can save the world from lunatic bombers. U can have a simple talent nite and serve everyone the so-called fun!
I dont give a dem about gurls wearing sexy gowns, be it malays or not. Itu sendiri punya pasal. However, I object when UMNO is being the PLATFORM for all these. By hosting such an event, UMNO is encouraging ppl to think that the western ways are THE way to guarantee good occasions. It's as if us Malays, hence the Club itself has no pride in its own identity. Are we too lacking in self-pride and identity that we decided to adopt the Hollywood theme for our party?
I am being emotional. True. However, I am for one believe that UMNO is a part (big or small, I am uncertain) of Malay identity, and whatever decision/activities it performs, will reflect and impact on its ppl. UMNO Kelab Luar Negara should be taken seriously. And with more depth and respect. If u think it is befitting for an UMNO club to hold a hollywood-oriented affair, then please, strip the name UMNO off your club. The Malays may have been progressing; upwards, downwards, im not sure. But if we are indeed heading south, then UMNO clubs must play a role to bring us back to the right track. And I dont reckon Agent 007 can help.

well say it straight prompuan. it WELLINGTON for real. and i seriously think that you take this matter seriously, rather than profesionally. started with the funding issue and it lead towards this, and another in near future. prolly you will always takkan puas hati dgn ape yg umno welly buat, right? RIGHT? confess it loudly neng, without hiding, or having stutter.
but just ponder wut u hv been doing so far? complaining? A+!! you dont even give yourself chance to look at different perspective.what have you done to change the world may i ask?if complaining is a career, man u are a millionaire!!
well i think its better to be creative sumtimes than to complain at all times.i personally took no position in umno activities, or its ajaran, because i choose not to.and i dont complain yada yada yada.and i know i dont have any contribution towards making this world a lovely place to be in.but i believe i just did.condeming people who always complain but resent to make any changes, and pouring conventional thinking and blobking the ability to think creatively.OMG Im the nobel prize winner!!
These people are trying their best to unite people.not only among malays, but other races as well.appreciate people's effort.imagine yourself in their shoes.probably not perfect, but that will do.
and to aida nazri. stop crapping about tok janggut and the gang, if you yourself dont know their exact contribution to our country.buat dulu majlis makan malam bertemakan tok janggut and tell me the outcome.prove me wrong!!!
owh man. i just cant believe my eyes seeing such critics. critics+ professionalism is good. but when it involves personal dissatisfaction+hate, it is a piece of an awful artwork.
UMNO did a good job in uniting people. tak kire agama dan bangsa. and that really matters to me. i was there having fun and interacting with lovely people from different race and background.plus the good food.
..and its quite funny how you have defined yourself as 'narrow minded' eh, but still complaining?...

HI duntalkcrap...
"well say it straight prompuan" -->
Wow, a comment wif such a rude entre really begs attention!
Uve stated ur points in the most explicit manner. I have no choice but to accept them. Haha!
But I stand firmly on my ground. I still believe in my "complaint", so much so that i think it WILL make the world (esp Malaysia) a much better place. So u see, we're both contributing to the world, in our own unique albeit distinct way...I cant imagine the world without ppl like us! Owh gosh!
SALAM KEMERDEKAAN saudara/i. Here's hoping that despite our differences, we'll find unity and connection in being MALAYSIANS.

Well, i guess the club's intention was a good one. U know, wanna unite ppl n all but i suppose there's a point missing here. However good your intention was, it could/should not be achieved by using wrong means/tools.
Matlamat tak membenarkan cara.
There's no doubting the efforts of committees. But wouldn't it be nicer if the effort is channeled towards something more meaningful? There are lots of other ways to unite ppl, and I personally do not think a Bond's cruise was an intelligent one. Like I said, good intention does not make way for bad means.
Bond movies are strictly fictional and entertainment. And uncontrolled amount of entertainment leads to hedonism. I don't suppose hedonism is a good thing. Don't you agree? Unless thats one of the objective of UMNO Club overseas. Well, at least from what I have been seeing, that's what the UMNO led government has been doing these days. Gwen Stefani anyone?
I do believe that Neng's intention was good, albeit how emotionally she was. But let's not judge on who she is but what she has to say. What if it was someone else's?
While for Aida nadzri's comment, I prefer to look it from a point of view of when the event was held. Just a few days before our 50th merdeka Celebration and the event was organised by UMNO (although this UMNO Baru has nothing to do with the one that help brought us independence). Its just doesn't make sense to do something that has no relation whatsoever to that historical day. I reckon this event must've been held in conjunction with the merdeka celebration. I suppose that was why she mentioned those names that hopefully we are familiar with.
...
For what has been done, just let it go. But not without careful postmortem and self check.
Who am I? What is the purpose of my life? Have what i done fulfilled that purpose?
I guess these are the questions that needed answers.
